I got this as a tweet -

switchfoot… To follow Jesus is to love your way through the darkness of this world- Cornell West.

For those of you still stuck in Pre-twitter era that is a mini blog meant to keep others up-to-date with your life, feelings, and shenanigans.

How do we do that?   This question led me to passages in Jude (22-23 specifically— Be merciful to those who doubt; 23snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.)

1. Be merciful - forgive even before asked.  Give others the benefit of the doubt.  Take a moment and walk in the other person’s shoes instead of judging from your vantage point.  Redeem and reconcile as you are given the grace and mercy to do so.

2. Snatch others from the fire and save them.   I can’t help thinking of the fire fighters on 9/11 who ran into the building and up the stairs.  Shouldn’t that be our natural tendency in matters of eternal value.  To risk and invest everything that others may know the love of God in Christ Jesus.  Yet we hide behind political correctness and tolerance or worse we stand in the judgment seat.

3. Once again be merciful, but do so with the power of transformation.  Show mercy and challenge someone’s addiction.   Show mercy and show disdain for the reasons mercy had to be given.  Show mercy and disapproval for the actions.  Show mercy and remember you too have your own problems for your flesh is weak too.
