‘67 Mustang

A friend of mine restored a ‘67 mustang convertible - new paint, new top, rebuilt engine, new carpet - the works.   It was gorgeous and roared like a lion.   He still had the same “old car”problems - the air conditioner might work, the floor boards were still rusting out, the universal joints and the rear end still made noise, and it still was not a dependable car to put the family in and go on a trip.  It is good to take on a Sunday afternoon drive and to a car show for display.  And it really looks good in his garage.

My concern with missional thinking in the traditional church is that it will look like a restoration project.  It will be a way to strip the rust off old programs, rebuild old ways of doing things, and upgrading old technology.
